An Indian Summer for the Digital Market?

There has been so much happening over the last few months it’s almost been an overload of the digital senses.

The iPhone 5 is being leaked left right and centre (it’s a bit bigger a bit more plastic looking but will perform better apparently) , the Social Olympics have been and gone, athletes were even issued guidelines on how to interact with their followers possibly defeating the object of Social Media channels but there you go that’s the IOC for you.

Which brings us neatly on to legacy,  Bruce Willis was contemplating a law suit against the might of Apple to bequeath his digital music collection to his kids, now he isn’t, according to his wife (not so tough really are you Brucey) all fun and games!

So where has this summer left us as people who make a living from this wonderful world of digital?

We started the year like a bat out of hell, as one fat bloke once sang, and we kept our foot on the gas until the days got longer and the sun shone, remember that day?  There was a huge demand for Digital Interims, people were falling over themselves to get an eCommerce Manager and Interface Developers were asking for significantly higher daily rates.  Reflected in this article from May on eConsultancy

It was time to party in the street with the Jubilee and then the build up to the big summer of sport and things just tailed off a little, the demand had gone from a “GET ME AN ANDROID DEVELOPER NOW!!!” to a “we’ll wait and see what happens over the next month or so” or “we’re watching the European markets” again all of this is reflected in these stats on IT Job Watch who suggest a fall in demand in the last 3 months but we’re still up on last year.

There is typically a slow in recruitment in all sectors over the summer and this year, has been no exception but there are reasons to be optimistic.  Just in the last week we have seen clients, big and small and in all sectors begin to take up arms in the battle for great digital talent.  This is being backed up by contractors I speak to.

If you’re looking for work you’re phone should be ringing more and if you’re looking to hire then there should be enough talent available, provided you look in the right places (I’ve heard the Digital lot at ReThink are good….)!

It’s moving month and all the signs are for a big closing ceremony for this year.
