Are you getting the best from your digital recruiters?

Are you getting the best from your digital recruiters?

If you hire in to digital roles it’s likely you will have one or two recruiters or companies that you are loyal to and have done a good job for you in the past. That’s business, I had a good experience, I’ll use them again, it works with banks, it works with shops, car washes...anything.

Most hiring managers that I speak to tell me they will review their suppliers or they will use a different agency when their current suppliers fail.....here’s a question for you.

Why wait until they fail?

When you need a contractor you need them now and you need them to be highly skilled.  When you need a permanent person you need the best people that your money gets you. So why wait until your agency fail to deliver before making sure you are getting the best service on the market?

If you have suppliers you use, keep them on their toes, put them up against some new agencies from time to time. From my experience if an agency know they will get business from you and you will use only them they will get complacent and deliver mediocre candidates after the novelty has worn off. Kind of a like a market comparison, except there isn’t a web site for it with any annoying toys or fat men with moustaches (maybe there’s a niche web site in there somewhere!!).

Alternatively, why not ask agencies that speak to you but you haven’t used yet to give you an idea on what rates they would expect to charge for the type of people you take on. Use the knowledge that we have to make sure the service and price you get are the best available.

By the very definition we are consultants, let us consult.

I’m not saying you spend 20 minutes talking to every recruiter but it’s normally pretty clear who knows what they are talking about and who are the “fresh fish”!  If a reliable and experienced recruiter calls, use their knowledge to help you in what you do. We’re not all scary sales people with big knots in our ties and shiny shoes, you never know we might just be quite good at what we do....

As a completely random aside did anyone see the “How Facebook changed the World” – (if you  missed it http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b014grsr ). If you ever doubted the power of social media, watch this!
