The Mobile Application Market

With the Mobile Market becoming more and more competitive, the need for “Mobile Application Developers” is at an all time high within both Permanent and Contract Employment.

With the battle between Android and iOS continuing, Android just seems to be getting bigger and bigger. In December 2011 it was estimated that more than 700,000 Android phones are activated every day. That’s an increase from the estimated 550,000 activated per day in July 2011, the estimated 500,000 activated in June 2011 and the estimated 400,000 in May 2011.

In November 2011 Google revealed that over 200 Million Android devices had been activated to date! That is a staggering double the number of devices activated compared to just 6 months prior.  T o put this into a little more perspective, Apple announced in October 2011 that a total of 250 Million iOS Devices had been sold, which includes iPods and iPads.

So with what to date can be estimated at over 500 Million+ devices active across the world and ever growing by the day, imagine what impact a “Mobile Application” could do to benefit your business?

Of course Apple and Android are major competitors and are continuously playing a game of leapfrog when it comes to saying how many devices have been activated, it’s like the saying “Mine’s Bigger than yours”. Apple likes to in some cases use the numbers game by saying the “iOS” number, which of course included iPads and iPods which too also run the iOS Apps. However, let’s not forget that Android too are in the tablet market with the likes of the “Samsung Galaxy Tab” and the “Motorola Xoom 2”.

But with all this being said, I believe that this is all a numbers game that is targeted at Developers, after all, the bigger the number, the bigger the potential market is for work!

In my eyes, I have seen a sudden rise in the demand for “Contract Android Developers” due to these figures stating that more and more people are begging to use Android Phones such as, HTC and Samsung which leads to “Android Development” being utilised on various different handsets, where as “iOS Development” is meant for the iPhone alone.

With London now known too many people as the “Digital Hub” of the UK with the likes of “Silicon Roundabout” there has been a huge rise in the amount of Developers looking for work in this area, and not ultimately realising the potential for work around other parts of the UK!

I had a only recently had a chat with a contact of mine (early this week) in regards to their growth plans and aspirations within the Mobile Application Market coming into 2012, and their view on bringing a new “Digital Hub” in the Mobile Applications Market away from London. Consequently as the conversation evolved we are now looking to recruit around 200+ “iOS” and “Android Developers” at all levels to become a part of something exciting through a UK wide “Mobile Application Recruitment Drive”.

Many clients and contacts of mine ask me, “Jon, Where do you see the Mobile Application Market going and what do I think the next biggest thing within the Mobile App Market in 2012?”

My Reply....

Imagine it.... Smart phones are forever getting better and Apps will be around for a very long time so in my eyes, the Application Market will only get bigger and bigger! Imagine it.... every time someone turns on their iPad, Samsung Galaxy Tab, iPod or even slides there finger across the screen to unlock their smart phone, your App and your product is there in front of them! Now with over 500 Million+ devices activated and growing by the day.....that’s a lot of people looking straight at it!

As for the biggest thing in the Mobile Application Market for 2012...... Why not see if you or your business  can be it?

Please feel free to contact me anytime if you are:

-          Looking to become a developer but not sure how to go about it

-          Looking for your next Contract or Permanent position within the Mobile Application world!
